Biography of Edmar Fernandez

Edmar de Moraes Fernandes is a Brazilian painter born in Chã de Alegria, Pernambuco, in 1982. Working in a naïve style, he creates paintings marked by direct composition, vivid color, and a visual language rooted in popular imagination.

 

He began painting at the age of ten and later studied at the Escolinha de Arte do Recife, following earlier training in drawing with artists Eugênio Paxelly and Ricardo Gonçalves. His work has been presented in numerous solo and group exhibitions, including the Salão de Artes Plásticas at the Museu do Estado de Pernambuco, Fórum Ministro Arthur Marinho, and Imaginário Brasileiro, all in Recife. His works are held in collections in countries including Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Switzerland.
